These days our digestive system is a hot topic. I was writing about emotions and toxins in our intestines.  I was reading about the functions of the small and large intestines.  While I am reading it I kept having thoughts about our lymphatic system.  I kept feeling like we are not paying attention to it .  Our appendix contains many masses of lymphoid tissue.  Or small intestine has a thin membrane known as the mesentery.  Blood vessels, nerves and lymphatic vessels pass through the mesentery.

I am reading about different parts of the Intestines. The last few sentences about your appendix in western medicine terms states:

The presence of lymphoid tissue suggest the the appendix may play a role in the immune system in addition to the digestive system.

The next sentence:

The appendix is not a vital organ...

There are a few theories of why we have one. One theory supports it because it is a storage area for beneficial bacteria and the bad theory says we have evolved and don't need it.

So, if we have evolved, wouldn't we start having babies that don't have an appendix?

No wonder the doctors are confused...

I say you need it.

These days I think about digestion alot.  One of the reasons is I was in an accident about two years ago.   It involved my mouth and other body parts.   I had to drink from a straw for three months, every meal.    One of my favorite meals was vegetable minestrone soup, with chopped up cilantro, onions, garlic and sometimes organic ground beef all thrown in the blender to make a warm smoothie.  I know it sounds crazy, but after a few weeks of cold smoothies you get desperate.   Remember all my meals were being eaten by sipping through a straw.  I was just by-passing my first step of digestion... My Saliva

I truly feel that my digestion is off because of this.   Also, there were a few more things that happened during this time.  I was literately living off of the Garden Of Life products.    During this time I found out that this company was selling their products and new that they were laced with some serious heavy metals, one being tunguston.    The other thing that happened was I was buying a local honey that was sold as honey.  I had  found out that it had been mixed with corn syrup and molasses.     All of the above issues contributed to some serious bloating and digestion issues.  To top it off two years later I have hit my menopausal journey.

I have been on a journey through my digestive system emotionally and physically, and nutritionally.    My first issue was not having the ability to chew my food.     The first step you can take is to make sure you are really chewing your food.  Your saliva is the first step to digestion.   When you think about all the coffee consuming first thing in the morning and a smoothie it is a wonder that most people are suffering from digestive issues.   Then we take a look at the smoothies that are being made, most are to high in fructose and who knows what other sweeteners are involved.

Toxin build up affects digestion, for me it was the heavy metals in the garden of life products

Food intolerance/food allergies affect digestion, for me it was the corn syrup, mostly likely gmo and it  is a heavy sweetener.  Sweeteners affect on digestion and GMO affect on digestion.

To much screen time, fight and flight mode.

Stress, emotions from the accident,  physical stress and screen time stress all contributed to my digestion issues
