What better way to start spring and celebrate Earth Day than by learning how to build an earthen wood fired oven. Earthen oven materials - mud, earth and clay. Thousands of years ago, the first ovens were made of mud. Baking in an earthen oven gives you a connection to your food and to nature. The ambiance of sitting by your earthen oven with a fire going is incredible. It is a great way to be prepared in the event of an emergency when you have no power to cook. It is perfect for you and/or your family, if you are working on sustainability and homesteading, whether you are in the city or out in the country. By signing up for this workshop you will leave with the basic knowledge for building your own oven. It will open your world to other earthen projects like cob walls for your garden and yards. Learning how to build an earthen oven is an exciting hands on workshop using only local clay and sand. You will get dirty at this workshop, so bring some extra clothes, rubber boots, some layers in case it gets chilly, hat if you like, camera/notebook, water, healthy food and healthy snacks. Note: Healthy food and healthy snacks. Since this is about being involved with nature, adding art to your life, becoming more prepared and sustainable, please think about your impact with your food choices for this day. After all it is almost earth day and what better way to take care of your earth than making better choices in the foods you eat. Think organic, farmed local, no spray food, junk food is not sustainable or healthy. So PLEASE, for this day, the day you put your hands and feet in the mud and build a great art project, no soda, no red bull, no Gatorade drinks with food coloring, no Doritos no Nabisco, no junk food. Honor your body by feeding it good nutritious food. Come have some fun, learn about what you can do with clay and build an earthen oven
