According to a study by University of Kansas researchers, the more time you spend immersed in the great outdoors, the better your creative juices flow. The study tested two groups of backpackers ranging in age from 18 to 60 plus. The first group was given a standard test of creativity called the Remote Associates Test before embarking on a hike. The second group took the test four days into a wilderness excursion, and they scored nearly 50 percent higher in creativity. The effect was large and reliable.
Creativity appears to peak after about three days of leaving the beaten path. When you have an extended period of time surrounded by that softly fascinating environment that you start seeing all kinds of positive effects in how your mind works.
