In discipline lies freedom!

Hello fellow seven steps to wellness group. I need some encouragement. This week our hospital is recognizing my career with free food every day, because it is national radiology week. I turned down free pizza today, and it sure took some will power to do so, and I LOVE PIZZA!
Tomorrow is free breakfast burritos. If your like me it's hard to turn down free food. I do walk by a bowl of candy all day at work for the past week, and I haven't snitched yet. Please give me some words of encouragement if you get a chance. Thank you.

  • Tonight I made a delicious pizza using cauliflower for the crust, from a recipe I got on this site. It was delicious. Perhaps you should make one and take some to work for lunch? I also made the garbanzos and loved those. If you have plenty of good snacks with you, maybe you will be less tempted. I also made the peanut butter cups, and if you take one or two of those along, you will not snack on other sweets. Those peanut butter cups go a long way! Free food isn't necessarily food.

  • Emily awesome feed back!  Thank You

  • Jim, one more thing. When you stay away from these foods long enough, not only will you stop craving them, but they will become gross to you. I no longer can stand bread, cake, milk chocolate, soda, etc. It doesn't taste good at all and I think I can taste chemicals. There is light at the end of the food tunnel. Keep walking.
  • Giving up foods we love is very hard. It's hard to not give into the sights and smells and to not feel sorry for ourselves. Overtime it will get easier, but you have to go through the withdrawals first. Make sure you have lots of healthy snacks with you and eat a good healthy meal before you are faced with those breakfast burritos. It is easier to walk away when you are not hungry. For every moment you are faced with the temptation to eat the foods that hurt you, tell yourself that you are choosing to be healthy, that you don't want to feel bad any more. Tell yourself that those foods are hurting you and you can't afford to feel that way anymore. Then eat a healthy snack. These snacks will eventually be satisfying. Don't be afraid to tell people that you can't eat those things anymore. They will eventually stop offering it and may even start bringing in things you can eat. You can do this. It will get easier, but it takes time, and a lot of strength and belief in yourself.
  • Jim try this recipe:

Use gluten free rice tortillas (Roths or Harvest Fresh) Add fresh chopped cilantro, use a red bell pepper instead for green,  Have a salad with it.   You could switch the eggs to fish, deer, elk, beef, or chicken..

  • Be proud of yourself Jim.  The foods that are being offered are most likely have Frankenfoods, toxic additives, nitrates, nitrites, hydrogenated oil, sugar etc.

Some of that food is not really food..

Bad gas.  We all know what happens when we put bad gas in a car.

In discipline does lie freedom..  You gain strength by walking by and and saying NO.  Your body also will gain strength by walking by and saying NO.

When you get your lunch ready for tomorrow, make something similar to a breakfast burrito.  Nothing better than bringing your own version that is healthier.

By doing all of this, you also give strength to others to say NO..

One last thing, if you want to keep climbing beautiful mountains and seeing awesome views, then you really want to say no to bad food.

  • Thank you Anthony.

Whenever you resist one of those tempting morsels of bad food, you're gaining interest in your warrior bank account and becoming more powerful!  Laugh at their (the foods) feeble attempts to coerce you!  You're awesome!
