My earth day is everyday. I walk up a mountain for exercise. I have a variety of tea sit spots like, up in the mountains, in the garden, in my special garden spots, in the trees listen to the birds and in the sun. I put my hands in the dirt in a daily basis, I eat local organic food and organic food, I use petroleum free products. We are growing our own food, I limit my car trips, I do not consume much, I work on a daily basis to keep my earth foot print small and simple. These are just a few things that I do to take care of the earth. I would love to see photos and/or hear from you about what you do to take care of the earth... You can create just a blog with photos and statements if you like. Pictures say a thousand words

Hi Vicki,
Yes, the Red Rangers are a meat bird. I have 20 and I will be getting another 20 next week. I am raising some turkeys too. As a family we are not getting enough protein. Most of us can't eat as many legumes so, I am trying to find a balance... Not easy to do.
I planted a lot of Walla Wallas, excited about this. They are a great tasting onion for grilling... Yummmmmm
As for today, we are starting more carrots, radishes, beets and kohlrabi. Sophia has more strawberry plants to plant and purple cabbage Then there is the weeding, filling up more garden beds, watering and then the animals. Slug control when it is dark. Whew! So much work but worth it...
As far as the baby chicks they are so stinky! Looking forward to getting the mud room back. I clean their tub every other day and it still gets so stinky. Makes you realize how bad the living arrangements are for the so called vegetarian free range birds and the caged birds. Gross..
Have a great day, may the sunshine on you and you can collect a lot of vitamin D.
Vicki your birds are almost grown,,,, Almost time for the best eggs in the world.
I'm interested in hearing more about the red ranger chickens. Are these for meat or eggs? We have buff orpingtons, ameraucanas, welsummers, wyandottes, and dominiques. All for eggs. I'm especially pleased about the dominiques, as they are reputed to be the oldest US chicken. Anyway, at present they look hilarious - about the size of chickens, scraggly, goony. Goonybirds! This week we are hardening them off, like a tomato plant, to prepare them for the great outdoors in a few days. Well, they will be inside the henhouse with a heatlamp at night, instead of stinking up my basement.
Your shallots look a lot like mine; they are the best. THey store great. THe other thing I'm happy about is the leeks, which wander all over the yard and are just right when I have run out of storage onions.
This week the walla wallas go in; I love grilling them with some butter and s and p. I bet they would be fabulous in your clay oven!
Time to plant dill and more cilantro, oh my! and ... and... and....
Love your pictures of the woods and your produce! It inspires me and gets my day started right!
Here is the rest of my Earth Day and this what I do just about everyday.. :)
Believe it or not this weighs more than me. I have to walk about 1/4 mile up a hill to get it. Coming down hill is another story
